The use of mercury in Artisanal gold mining in Suriname does not only impact nature and the environment, but it also has an impact on humans. During the project: Promoting Health in Small Artisanal Mining of Gold (PROSAMIGO) which was conducted in 2015-2016 by the Medische Zending and Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre, an inquiry was done into the knowledge of mercury in the communities living near the goldmines and those employed in the goldfields. Educational materials where developed and tailored to the results of this research.

Three posters and an animation in various languages spoken by the target audience were developed to provide information on mercury intake, health effects and which groups are mostly at risk.
